What are CDF Freedom Schools?

The CDF Freedom Schools program is a literacy-rich summer and after-school program that serves children in communities where quality academic enrichment programming is rare, cost prohibitive or non-existent. Modeled after the 1964 Mississippi Freedom Summer Project, CDF Freedom Schools programs train college-age young adults to work with children ages 5-18 through an integrated curriculum for reading and cultural enrichment, youth leadership development, parental empowerment, civic engagement and social action. Since 1995, more than 40,000 children, 4,500 college students, 1,900 high school students and 550 site coordinators and project directors have had an empowering CDF Freedom Schools experience!
